In the current project, students observed and recorded changes that happened in the randomly assigned campus map section. (Click here to explore the details.), and then created a time-based map that visually represented the most exciting finding(s).
A map that guides you nowhere but the secrets in the bushes.
My main location, the Grieg Garden, is located in the bushes that you can only access to through taking walking paths. Another location is hidden behind trees between the Thomson Hall and the Communications Building. In the course of one week, I discovered that smokers gathered at this natural sites to social and smoke. Evidence of cigarette butts were found on the ground with a strong smell remaining in the air.
I aimed to recreate the natural scene in a conceptual way: the number of paths connected to the bottle indicates the number of smokers I observed in each location; the center part symbolises the exclusiveness of smoking activities on campus; the size of bottles and the number of cigarette butts collected on the site represent the smokers.
